Some weddings don’t need a venue. They unfold in the place where everyday life already happens — where family photos line the walls, where babies take first steps, where dinner is shared, and where the stories that matter most are lived out. Emily and Oba’s micro wedding at home was exactly that kind of day.
They chose to get married at home with only immediate family present, and every part of their day reflected who they are together.
Getting Ready at Home
Emily and Oba got ready separately. Emily did her own hair and makeup, and slipped into a soft, embroidered dress paired with gold sandals. Oba dressed in a custom outfit designed after the one his father wore on his own wedding day. The clean lines, light fabric, and matching hat created a look that was both traditional and personal. Their son, August, wore a tiny version of his dad’s outfit with shoes that matched his mom’s.
Once Emily was ready, we didn’t stage a formal first look. Oba simply stepped into the room, and the moment unfolded naturally — sweet, understated, and exactly right for the two of them. Then they got their son dressed together, helping him with his tiny outfit and taking in the moment as a family of three on the cusp of becoming four.
Their Backyard Wedding Ceremony
Their families gathered in the backyard, where Emily and Oba had built their own floral arbor, and Emily’s father walked her in. Chairs formed a soft semicircle around the ceremony space, and their dog lounged around, keeping watch over everything.
Emily’s grandmother had brought a piece of Italian lace with Emily’s initial on it when she traveled from Italy years before, when Emily was still in high school. Emily carried it wrapped around her bouquet.
Her brother officiated the ceremony, and Emily and Oba exchanged their own handwritten vows.
After the ceremony ended, the family took turns sharing memories and offering well-wishes to the newlyweds.
Celebrating Their Wedding at Home
Inside, the living room and kitchen were already filled with the couple’s personality. There were framed photos, cultural art, handmade pieces, and thoughtful little details that reflect their life together. It all added to the feeling that this wasn’t just a wedding day; it was an extension of their home, their history, and the life they’re continuing to build.
Oba and Emily cut the cake Oba’s mom had baked, poured champagne, and sat around the kitchen table with their family. The celebration stayed simple and intimate, full of belly laughs and sweet moments with the family.
Every part of the day felt intentional, personal, and deeply authentic to Emily and Oba’s relationship.
