Alyson and Charles are friends of ours, so when they got engaged and asked us to photograph their wedding we were so excited! We captured some engagement photos for them on a quick trip up to NYC where they live, and had lots of fun exploring all their favorite neighborhoods in the city.
Soho Engagement Photos
The main reason we try to always include an engagement session for our wedding couples is so we can get to know each other and get you comfortable in front of the camera. After all, most couples have never spent as much time in front of a camera as they will on their wedding day. What so many people think is being “unphotogenic” is really just being uncomfortable in front of the camera, and spending this time together can really make a huge difference in your wedding photos. Since Aly and Charles already knew us well, the main goal of this engagement session was to get them to relax in front of the camera and get used to us clicking away.
For this engagement session, we decided to hit up a few of Aly and Charles’ favorite spots, but mostly to just see where the day took us instead of hopping around to specific destinations. They mentioned really liking the urban art around Soho and Nolita, so we made our way through the neighborhoods stopping whenever something caught our eye. Within just a few blocks we found a bright colorful mural, some gorgeous white flowering bushes, and the coolest doorway filled with potted plants. NYC truly has so much to see that planning certain locations can feel restrictive, so being able to work with our friends who trusted our vision in this way was incredibly rewarding.
We always have fun working with couples we know personally, and Alyson and Charles were no different. We love how this laid-back engagement session turned out. If you’re looking for an engagement session in NYC, let us know! We love to travel and spending a day up in New York is always a joy.
