Sarah was my college roommate at GW’s Corcoran School of Arts and Design, and we have remained close friends ever since. When she reached out about her intimate wedding wanting only some family photos, I insisted that Greg and I capture her full celebration instead. These two are some of the kindest, silliest people I know and I’m so glad we could capture their wedding day.
Washington, DC Intimate Wedding
After living together in Washington, DC for many years after college, Sarah and Ken moved out to Seattle for work. However, when it came to planning their intimate wedding day, they knew they wanted to return to their East Coast roots to be close to friends and family. Sarah and Ken decided to have their wedding at Big Bear Cafe in the Truxton Circle neighborhood of DC, just a few blocks from where we all lived back in college and where they started their relationship. They planned the entire wedding themselves and even added special personal touches like the blind contour drawings of each guest that served as place cards.
We started off the wedding day at the Airbnb where Sarah and Ken were getting ready, and took some time to wander the neighborhood snapping some portraits along the way. Sarah and Ken are incredibly goofy and love making each other laugh, so their photos were anything but boring. Afterward, we headed over to Big Bear Cafe for their ceremony on the patio, which was officiated by one of Ken’s old professors. The ceremony was incredibly heartfelt, with readings from a few friends and family members, and it was so wonderful to see these two usually private people confess their love for one another. After the ceremony, we had a delicious dinner courtesy of Big Bear Cafe and celebrated with this amazing group of people.
There is something so fulfilling about documenting a wedding day for a couple we’ve known and cherished for over a decade. This wedding day will always hold such a special place in our hearts.
